Reynosa is a city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It is located at 26°05′N 98°17′W26.08°N 98.28°W, across the Rio Grande (Río Bravo) from McAllen (Hidalgo County) in the U.S. state of Texas. According to INEGI census 2005 Reynosa's population was 507,998 for the city and 526,888 for the municipality.
Reynosa was founded on 14 March 1749 by Carlos Cantú under the command of José de Escandón y Helguera the Count of Sierra Gorda, and 279 Habitats. But due to flooding in the area on the 4 July 1802, they decided to move 5 miles to the east keeping the same margin between them and the Rio Grande (Río Bravo for México). It was not until 1926 that the state government recognized Reynosa as a city.
Reynosa today is the location of several satellite U.S. Companies doing business to take advantage of low labor rates and sparse benefits.
